Does WinGeno run on Windows?

A native Windows desktop app is coming soon. Currently, WinGeno is available as a browser version that runs on any modern browser on Windows — no installation required.

Does WinGeno run on Mac?

A native macOS version is on the roadmap. In the meantime, Mac users can use the browser version directly — no installation required, works in any modern browser on macOS.

Does WinGeno run on Linux?

A native Linux build is planned. Until then, the browser version works on any Linux system with a modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge).

Is there a mobile app for Android or iOS?

Mobile apps are on the roadmap. For now, the browser version works on modern mobile browsers as well, though a larger screen is recommended for comfortable editing.

Does WinGeno work offline?

The current browser version requires an initial load. The upcoming desktop application will work fully offline. In both cases, your data never leaves your device.

Files & Compatibility

What file format does WinGeno use?

WinGeno saves genograms in its own .geno format. Files are compact, self-contained, and stored entirely on your device.

Can I open older WinGeno files?

Yes. WinGeno 2 can open files created with earlier versions of WinGeno.

Can I export my genogram?

Yes. WinGeno offers three ways to use your genogram outside the application:

• Copy & Paste — press Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C and paste directly into Word, PowerPoint, LibreOffice, or any other application. The genogram is inserted as an image instantly.
• Export as image — use File → Export to save the genogram as a PNG or JPG file.
• Save as PDF — use File → Print to save as PDF, including an optional auto-generated legend.

Is WinGeno compatible with other genogram software?

WinGeno uses its own .geno format, which is not directly compatible with other tools. There is no industry-standard genogram file format, so most dedicated genogram applications use proprietary formats.

Privacy & Data

Does WinGeno store my data in the cloud?

No. WinGeno stores all genogram data exclusively on your device. There is no account, no cloud upload, and no server that receives your data. This makes WinGeno suitable for use with sensitive client data in social work and therapy settings.

Is WinGeno GDPR-compliant?

Yes, by design. Because no personal data leaves your device, there is nothing to process on a server. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

Do I need to create an account?

No. WinGeno requires no account of any kind. The browser version works immediately without registration.

Is WinGeno free?

Yes. WinGeno is free to use. The browser version requires no registration and has no time limits. It is supported by non-intrusive ads.

Languages

What languages does WinGeno support?

The WinGeno user interface and manual are available in four languages: English, German (Deutsch), Spanish (Español), and French (Français). The application switches language based on your system locale, or you can select a language manually.

Can I add my own language or translation?

Yes. WinGeno is designed to be extensible. You can provide a custom translation by editing the localisation resource file. The process is described in the manual.

A genogram is a structured diagram that maps family relationships, significant life events, and patterns across multiple generations.
